The Azienda Socio Sanitaria Territoriale Santi Paolo e Carlo (ASST SSPC) is a public health agency of the Lombardy Region that provides services included in the Essential Levels of Care (LEA), both hospital and territorial, on behalf of the Regional Health System (SSR). The company includes two hospitals, San Paolo and San Carlo, whose vocation is strongly oriented to the activity carried out in favour of patients who access the two Emergency Departments (classified as DEA level I), a precise and not replaceable point of reference for the western and southern areas of the Milanese metropolis and which place the ASST, with more than 150,000 emergency services per year, at the top of the Hospital Structures of the regional Emergency Urgency Network.

This significant volume of patients characterises not only the two Emergency Departments (A&E), but also the entire two Hospital Structures, considering that 40/50 patients need to be admitted to hospital every day in an emergency and that, consequently, more than 400 beds are constantly employed in this activity, in almost all medical and surgical disciplines, each able to provide not only basic services, but also highly specialised activities.
