The Hospital Clínic de Barcelona is a public, centenary, university hospital with a research vocation. Assistance, research and teaching are our raison d'être and act univocally, within the framework of the Hospital, to achieve excellence. Research is fundamental for progress, for the improvement of our patients and to try to identify the causes of the disease and its treatment. In 1989 we created the Fundació Clinic per la Recerca Biomèdica, the first foundation in our country dedicated to promoting and managing the search for care independently. Subsequently, in 1996, the Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi Sunyer (IDIBAPS) was constituted as a consortium formed by the Hospital Clinic de Barcelona, the University of Barcelona, and the Generalitat de Catalunya, with which the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas was later associated, with the aim of bringing basic and clinical research closer together and working to answer the questions that arise from attending to our patients. This healthcare, basic, translational and clinical research, teaching and university environment formed by the Hospital, the Foundation, IDIBAPS and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona makes up the Campus Clínic Barcelona, a biomedical reference in Catalonia and Spain in continuous search of knowledge of the disease and its treatment, its application in the clinic and its dissemination.
