Biographies

Pr Daniel Böhringer

Prof. Dr. med. Daniel Böhringer serves as Senior Physician and Head of Clinical Studies at the Eye Center of the University Hospital of Freiburg. He earned his medical license and PhD in cardiovascular physiology in 1999, subsequently completing his ophthalmology training in Düsseldorf and Freiburg.

In 2011, he was appointed Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology, underscoring his academic contributions. His expertise spans clinical trials, particularly concerning the anterior eye segment, regulatory affairs, and the application of machine learning. With an H-Index of 48 (Google Scholar, 2025) and notable awards like the Troutman Prize, Prof. Böhringer is a recognized expert in ophthalmic research.

Pr Petra Liskova

Prof. Petra Liskova, MD, PhD, is a clinical scientist and Head of the Centre for Clinical Ocular Genetic; Department of Ophthalmology, General University Hospital in Prague and First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University.

She has been involved in the identification of several genes causing inherited ocular disorders, including four genes underlying  corneal dystrophies. Since 2016, she has been leading a research laboratory in parallel with her clinical work and has been actively engaged in training medical doctors and MSc graduates in ophthalmic genetics through both clinical mentorship and PhD supervision. Prof. Liskova published 129 articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Pr Luca Buzzonetti

Luca Buzzonetti, MD is Head of the Ophthalmology Unit at the Bambino Gesù IRCCS Children’s Hospital of Rome (Italy) and professor of pediatric cornea surgery at Catholic University of Rome (Italy).

Over recent years, Luca Buzzonetti has been mainly interested in corneal and refractive surgery. He pioneered an innovative technique of big-bubble DALK assisted by femtosecond laser called Big Bubble Full Femto and he was the first surgeon to adopt the femtosecond technology in pediatric corneal surgery.

He was author of more than 180 papers, 75 of which published under peer review, and Principal Investigator (PI) in several research projects developed in pediatric ophthalmology.
