Het AMC/LUMC fungeert als kenniscentrum voor maatschappelijke thema’s op het gebied van volksgezondheid, vervult een regiefunctie in de regio en fungeert als centrum voor permanente educatie en nascholing van medische professionals.
AMC/LUMC zijn expertisecentra voor zeldzame oogziekten, met actief klinisch en fundamenteel onderzoek op dit onderwerp. De AMC oftalmogenetische database behoort tot de grootste ter wereld.
