Als universitair medisch centrum investeert het UZ Gent ook in onderzoek, onderwijs en opleiding en werkt het nauw samen met de Faculteit Geneeskunde en Gezondheidswetenschappen van de Universiteit Gent. Deze laatste biedt een breed scala aan opleidingen in de geneeskunde en gezondheidswetenschappen, en de daaraan gekoppelde onderzoeksactiviteiten. Het onderzoek aan de faculteit is zeer divers, variërend van fundamenteel (bio)medisch onderzoek tot translationeel en klinisch wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Artsen en beroepsbeoefenaren in de gezondheidszorg worden voortdurend opgeleid en onderzoekers, waaronder klinische wetenschappers, bestuderen veel nieuwe diagnostische en therapeutische benaderingen.
