Launch of the first version of the Clinical Patient Management System (CPMS) by the European Commission

The Clinical Patient Management System (CPMS) was launched by the European Commission (DG SANTE) on Monday, November 20th, 2017. It’s a web-based application where healthcare professionals from the European Reference Networks (ERNs) can discuss real patient cases. This platform aims at supporting ERNs in improving the diagnosis and treatment of rare or low prevalence complex diseases across national borders of Member States in Europe. The first few months will focus on the enrolment of the first patients into the CPMS by each ERN and the launch of the first virtual panels, as users get acquainted to the basic functionalities of the platform. The next months will be dedicated to the customization of the system for Rare Eye Diseases specifically.

The CPMS is a secure software that enables health professionals to enroll patients using comprehensive data models. The system will allow for virtual consultation across national borders, ensuring that the needed expertise can travel to the patient, instead of the other way around.

During this first phase all ERNs will familiarize themselves with the system in order to assure optimal functionality. ERN-EYE will begin with five patients to finally extend the CPMS to all the HCPs members of the project.
