In quanto centro medico universitario, il Ghent University Hospital investe anche nella ricerca, nell'istruzione e nella formazione e lavora a stretto contatto con la Facoltà di Medicina e Scienze della Salute dell'Università di Ghent. Quest'ultimo offre un'ampia gamma di programmi di studio in medicina e scienze della salute, nonché le attività di ricerca associate. La ricerca presso la facoltà è molto diversificata e spazia dalla ricerca fondamentale (bio)medica alla ricerca accademica traslazionale e clinica. I medici e gli operatori sanitari ricevono una formazione continua e i ricercatori, compresi i medici-scienziati, studiano molti nuovi approcci diagnostici e terapeutici.
