En tant que centre médical universitaire, l'Hôpital universitaire de Gand investit également dans la recherche, l'éducation et la formation et travaille en étroite collaboration avec la Faculté de médecine et des sciences de la santé de l'Université de Gand. Cette dernière propose une large gamme de programmes d'études en médecine et en sciences de la santé, ainsi que les activités de recherche associées. La recherche à la faculté est très diversifiée, allant de la recherche fondamentale (bio)médicale à la recherche académique translationnelle et clinique. Les cliniciens et les professionnels de la santé sont formés en permanence et les chercheurs, notamment les cliniciens-chercheurs, étudient de nombreuses nouvelles approches diagnostiques et thérapeutiques.
